summer 2014
the 3 i’s
In the spring issue, I had the pleasure of introducing you to the
trendingworld of pocket-style scrapbooking. Thiswinning com-
bination ofmemory keeping and pocket embellishing is rising in
popularity, and just about everymanufacturermakes some type of
product thatworks greatwith this systemof scrapbooking.
The choices for embellishments, stamps, die cuts and ephemera are
endless, and even I find thewide varietyoverwhelming at times. If
you are just starting out in pocket scrapbooking, start small and
growyour collection of products slowly. Here are three tips to get
you started.
Be choosy.
Think about the topic of the photos youwant to
pocket scrap, then choose a nice varietyof products thatwill
complement that theme, both in colour and style. Mixing and
matchingwill give you awider varietyof products to choose from,
versus stickingwith one complete collection. In other words, a
little bit of this and a little bit of thatwill help you getmore
pages completed.
Embellish thoughtfully.
With pocket pages, the thinner the
embellishment, the easier it is to layer. Plan all of your photos and
journaling first, then embellish the pockets for creative and visual
balance.
Mixuppage sizes.
There is a varietyof divided page protectors
available, from as small as 4"x4" up to 12"x12". And it looks neat
whenmultiple sizes are used together in a single album. The num-
ber of photos you have and/or your album's sizewill likely dictate
the page size you choose. Don't overlook the creative possibility
of usingmore than one size at the same time. One of the greatest
parts of pocket scrapbooking is that you can
easily shift the contents of each pocket
around, both on the same page and in
between pages.
Read on to learn some great tech-
niques for embellishing, saving
time and keeping pocket
scrapbooking enjoyable
and stress-free.
