Draw your own lines for journaling. Make them messy
on purpose and then vary the size of your words and
letters inside the lines.
Go bigger with the numbers you choose to add to you
layout. I love emphasizing the date on many of my
pages.
The original colour of my photo, taken with my phone,
was really pink – way too pink for my taste. Converting it
to black and white in Photoshop before printing was a
good way to fix the problem and it also added a
timelessness to the photo.

It’s very true that my kids will likely look back on this
Christmas and not even be aware that there was any
hint of sadness, but I want to remember how I felt. My
approach is to simply state, “For me, it was a challenge in
grace and a lesson in asserting what I need.” Holidays
after divorce are strange, uncomfortable, and challenging,
no matter which character you play in the story.
It’s also true that I could have created a layout that
left out any trace of sadness and instead focused only
on the joy I experienced in the later afternoon. I choose
to include acknowledgement of what was real for me
and then move forward.
Life is complicated, but each and every experience
we have—good or bad, joyous or sad, uplifting or
disappointing—shapes who we are. That is why I
encourage you to document your authentic life, the
highs and the lows and all of those moments in between
that have made you who you are.
