I’m a fan of traditions. I like old ones. I also like
creating new traditions and documenting how
others have evolved. Most of us have stories to tell
about the evolutions of our traditions.
Think about traditions from your childhood. How is
that tradition different today and how is it the
same? What common threads can you find that
weave their way through your stories about
traditions from yesterday and today?
When you tell the story of this Halloween include
some traditional references to years past. What’s
the same? What’s different? How do you feel
about it?
Each time we journal we are given the opportunity
to add emotional and historical context to our
stories in addition to the basic facts of a holiday or
event. Make it count. It makes for a richer story
overall.

traditions
Cover your background with photos and then build your
page on top of them.
Cut embellishments from patterned paper. The two
speech bubbles I used here are from a patterned paper
that includes more just like them. It’s a great way to tie
pieces of your page together.
Using letter stickers, create a long title that goes all the
way across the page.
Write about why a certain event is important to you and
what you love most about it. What traditions do you
cherish and which do you miss?
When taking photos, go for a combination of candid and
smile-for-the-camera shots.
