Three page sketches, three talented
designers, and three terrific results

Out of habit, many of us reach for a solid
piece of cardstock to serve as the foundation
for our layout, but backgrounds don’t have to
be flat and one-dimensional. The next time
you find yourself heading to your cardstock
stash, take a moment to consider an alternate
foundation for your next page. Like Stephanie,
Kimber and Nicole show us here, their
backgrounds are anything but boring

patterned paper
Even though Stephanie has a lot of layering and dimension on her layout, the
colourful patterned paper she chose for her foundation works well because
she broke it up with a piece of solid, corrugated paper. Her base paper
determined many of the colours she chose for the rest of her page, yet serves
primarily as a source of accent colours in her overall design.
