Welcome to SCT’s web version of “Inspired By,” a new feature that can be seen on page 48 of our Spring 2012 issue! In this new article, designers choose their favourite layout from the previous issue’s Reader’s Gallery, then create a new layout based on it. Such a fun and inspiring way to scrapbook, don’t you think?

Courtney chose Lisa VanderVeen’s “Catching Flakes” layout from the Winter 2011 issue. “I loved how Lisa stacked the papers on the right hand side, so I flipped it and put the same idea on the bottom of my 12×12 single page,” shared Courtney. I also liked the larger and smaller photos that she chose for her page.” Courtney made a great conversion from a double page to a single page, and we love her Spring colour palette!

Leica departed from the Reader’s Gallery and chose Kathy Thompson’s “Glimpses of Christmas” layout from our Photography Today article. “I loved how Kathy created so much white space by building her layout down the center of the page,” Leica noted. “All of the small details on the colour-blocked squares really pop and add so much dimension. Thanks for the inspiration, Kathy!”

Jen loved the side-by-side focal photos on Charity Hassel’s “Merry Girls” layout and decided to make a simple and quick version of that layout. “Charity’s layout is so detail-rich and linear in style, a perfect fit to scraplift a simple page,” Jen said. “I tilted my photos to create a bit of whimsy and placed butterflies in the top, right corner that appear to be flying off the page.”
